What to look for when choosing caravan windows

Choosing a replacement caravan window involves more than matching the approximate dimensions of the old frame. The wall opening, wall thickness, corner shape, glazing type and internal blind system all need to be considered.

Double-glazed construction

How to measure caravan blinds using the visible window opening width and height

How to measure caravan blinds

Accurate measurements are important when replacing a caravan blind. Do not measure the outer edge of the existing blind cassette and assume that is the blind size required.

Measure from the inside of the window frame — the visible opening shown in the diagram.

  1. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom.
    Measure horizontally across the visible opening in all three positions. Caravan window openings are not always perfectly square, particularly on older vans. Use the narrowest width.
  2. Measure the height on the left and right.
    Measure vertically from the inside edges of the visible opening on both sides. Use the shortest height.
  3. Select the blind size that fits within the opening.
    Compare the narrowest width and shortest height with the available NCE blind sizes to select a suitable fit.
  4. Confirm which blind system you have.
    Nuovo pleated blinds, Nuovo roller blinds and Euro Blind & Flyscreen systems are different products. Confirm compatibility as well as dimensions before ordering.

Measuring tip: record caravan window and blind sizes as Width × Height. For example, a 700mm wide by 500mm high opening should be recorded as 700 × 500mm.

Pleated blind or roller blind?

The Nuovo pleated blind uses a concertina-style privacy blind and integrated flyscreen, while the roller blind system uses a roller privacy blind and separate flyscreen action.

Both provide privacy, insect protection and ventilation control, but the operating style and frame design differ.

Replacing an existing caravan window

Measure the actual wall opening rather than the outside dimensions of the old window frame. Check width, height, corner radius and wall thickness before choosing a replacement.

Why use an integrated flyscreen?

An integrated flyscreen allows the caravan window to remain open for ventilation while helping keep insects outside the living space.

Why accurate measurements matter
