NCE Sustainability
Why E Waste Matters
E waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams globally. In 2022, 62 million tonnes of e waste were generated worldwide, with less than 25% formally recycled.
When not handled properly, electronic waste can contain toxic substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium that may contaminate soil and water. At the same time, it also contains valuable recoverable materials that should be returned to productive use wherever possible.
Australia generates significantly more e waste per person than the global average, which makes responsible recycling programs essential. Electronics also tend to carry a higher carbon footprint per kilogram of product, rely more heavily on scarce materials, and present a uniquely hazardous waste profile at end of life.
Responsible Recycling with ANZRP
A key part of our commitment is how we manage e waste responsibly and in line with nationally recognised product stewardship standards.
NCE is a proud member of the Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform (ANZRP), a not for profit organisation and a leading co-regulatory arrangement under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS).
As an ANZRP member, we meet our obligations under the NTCRS and support the safe, ethical and environmentally responsible recycling of electronic products across Australia.
- Best practice e product stewardship
- Ethical and transparent recycling processes
- Strong environmental, social and governance standards
- Responsible end of life outcomes for electronic products
Nationally Recognised Accountability
Through this partnership, NCE supports a recognised national framework that helps ensure electronic products are recovered and processed responsibly once they reach end of life.
It gives our customers and partners confidence that we are taking practical steps to meet our obligations and manage our environmental responsibilities with transparency.
ANZRP Member, NTCRS Compliant
This ANZRP membership badge acknowledges NCEās participation and leadership under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.
It provides our customers and partners with confidence that NCE applies recognised standards in managing its environmental responsibilities and acquitting its obligations under the scheme.
ANZRP Member Since 2023Our Measurable Environmental Impact
Each year, ANZRP engages an independent environmental consultant to conduct a lifecycle assessment of e waste collected and recycled through the scheme. As part of our membership, NCEās recycling obligations contribute to measurable environmental benefits across key impact areas.
Avoided Carbon Emissions
Responsible recovery and recycling helps reduce emissions associated with landfill, raw material extraction and inefficient disposal pathways.
Reduced Water and Energy Consumption
Recovering valuable materials through formal recycling channels can reduce demand for resource-intensive extraction and manufacturing processes.
Lower Particulate Matter
Proper end of life handling supports cleaner recycling outcomes and helps reduce harmful particulate matter released into the atmosphere.
Transparency Matters
We believe transparency matters. Thatās why we share annual high level impact summaries that demonstrate the real outcomes of responsible recycling, not just intent.
For NCE, sustainability is not about broad statements. Itās about accountability, clear standards, and practical action that can be measured over time.
A Practical Approach to Sustainability
Responsible recycling is one part of NCEās broader approach to reducing our environmental footprint and operating with integrity.
We focus on practical, measurable actions that make a genuine difference, supporting national recycling programs, improving accountability, and continually reviewing how we can do better for our industry and the environment.
While we know programs like this do not solve everything, they allow us to take accountability for our impact today and continue improving how we operate into the future.
Doing Better Over Time
Sustainability at NCE is about taking responsibility for the products we place on the market and backing that responsibility with meaningful action. Weāll continue supporting recognised recycling pathways and improving the way we operate over time.
